Timberlake Terminates Fire Chief

Citing budget woes, the commissioners for the district voted to negotiate a management contract with Northern Lakes Fire District. Kirk Quillan, the commissioner representing Bayview explained that the move is strictly budget driven and not about performance.

With the polarization of the last year, this is going to be difficult for many to swallow. With management shifting to Hayden, local supervision will not be quite the same. The alternative was to go for a permanent levy that the community can't afford. Quillan further said that,"we went from a chief on salary and two firefighters to a personnel cost that the community can't afford."

I'll be meeting with Commissioner Quillan tomorrow and will have more on this subject. I will also attempt to get fired chief Krill's side of the story.

Krill got sacked from his last job too. Is it certain this is truly over budget issues or did he run afoul of someone?

The commissioner of Timberlake fire district are trying to adhere to the voters wishes of staying within their budget. We were paying money to a Fire Chief that can be used to take care of our equipment. Their decision was extremely difficult which could be seen on all of their faces Wednesday night.

Krill did a great job as fire chief, he did more in his short time with your community then what was done in the past. It is a great loss.

Because of the buget ha what everyone doesnt know it is gonna cost almost as much to have Northern Lakes mannage timberlake fire district than it did for Krill to do it

Poeple dont realize that your taxes are gonna go up no matter what you would of voted for when the levy came around If the fire district couldnt of gotten the levy passed they would of had to shut down stations in order to keep running and that will make your ISO (Insurence) rating go up because there wouldnt be a fire station close to your house, for example with the levy passing it would go up $20.00 year and if it didnt pass it would go up 80-100 per year.

We can have the most up to date well maintained vehicles in the district, but without leadership that is all they will be, shiny red trucks. That is not what they were designed to do, the were designed to get dirty and be put to the test. That is why we need our Fire Fighter/EMT's. But they risk their lives, for our sake, and they need QUALITY, EXPERIENCED leadership to enable them to CONFIDENTLY do their jobs. Northern Lakes can surely do that, but developing trust and faith in your administration takes time. So, in the mean time, this Board has put our District at risk, especially Bayview. All it will take is one incident at Silverwood and the only two paid staff we have are dedicated to that call. Someone suffering a heart attack in Bayview will have to wait on Sprit Lake or Northern Lakes mutual aide to get there. You live here, you know how long that takes. And in the medical community there is a common saying, "Time is Heart Muscle", the longer that patient has to wait to get help, the more heart muscle he loses, or the more brain tissue that stroke victim looses, or the more blood that trauma victim loses. The longer a fire victim has to wait, the more property he loses. And don't forget, Northern Lakes certainly will not be providing their services of management to our district for free. Does anyone have any idea what the cost will be to Timberlake to retain the services of a management team from Northern Lakes. None of that has been made public either. These are the questions that need to be answered at these commissioner meetings.
