Rusty's Buttonhook Opens

A soft opening of Rusty's Buttonhook Inn will open for the bar only, Thursday, May 6 at 11:00 am, closing at 10:00 pm. There will be food service probably a week later. The complications of starting from scratch with personnel, food importation and inventory selections will take at least that long.

The menu, while keeping the high end meals for those that want that, will also be a full service menu. A full price range will be available for the public.

More as I have it, when I have it.

Thank you for your inquiry, Ric. I haven't heard from Joni since her and her husband mov ed to post falls. I'm certain that if she were to surface, she would be given consideration.

I received an inquiry about ownership, etc that for whatever reason is not coming up on the blog, at least yet. Essentially this is what's happening. I am not a an owner, nor the lessee. Kim Gittle who used to have a summer home here in Bayview, and his boat, is an experienced bar & restaurant owner. He is leasing the building from Chan. I am facilitating some of the preparation for opening, and will work at the restaurant when it opens. Rusty's is the name of his very sucessful lounge in Hayden. I don't think it represents any person that I am aware of.

Thanks for clarifiying some things, Herb. What confusion! As if the waters are not muddy enough as to who owns what in this little town. I hope everything is on the up and up and that innocent folks are not sucked down into the mud, which seems to be more like quick sand. As I understand your post, Chan owns the Hook even though there is not any proof that he owns it. Hummm --- wonder what name the liquor license and food handler permit is under - owner / proprietor or the person leasing the Hook from Chan? All I can say is, those persons taking on this endeavor --- Good Luck & CYA as this is still not a clear situation of ownership and licenses. Guess we will just have to wait to see how this plays out. Not sure we will be patrons at this point. Please keep folks informed. Sorry can't support this one until better facts proven as to who owns what. Hope you can help with rumors that seem to abound about such things.

@ Inquiring mind:

I can solve one of your questions as to licenses. But before I do that, the owners like their business dealing kept private, and sans any announcement to the contrary I am not going to go there.

The state has split the licenses between the patio and the 'hook, as one entity. The buttonhook is every bit as legit as the patio. To understand the licensing procedure, remember that outside incorporated cities, no licence may be issued to an individual or company. The exceptions to this rule are two.

First, The grandfather or 75 year rule, which is mostly affecting the silver valley. It's kind of like the immigration situation. If you were bootlegging in a place such as th Snake Pit did for years, and have been in business uninterupted for at least 75 years, they awarded liquor licenses. I believe that the Snake Pit was the first recipient, several years ago.

The second category are resorts. Waterfront, golf courses and the like. In these cases, licenses are awarded to locations, not a person or company. Ergo, the Buttonhook and the patio. This situation was somwhat different, as separate parties operated each one. In their infinite wisdome, the liquor board made an exception and issued a licence covering both locations. As a fyi, no beer company or liquor store will sell to a bar without first producing a current license. I personally saw both state and county licenses as did the distributors. Everything is legal and on the up and up. As to ownership issues, those do not affect you as a consumer. Chan has control. Lets let it go there. With the Captain's Wheel closed indefinately, there will be plenty of business for everyone. I sincerely hope you enjoy whatever venue you choose to visit.

I can't help but wonder what Chan has done to this community that causes such ire? He has been here since 1993. Who cares what he owns? Why is the ownership an issue?

For me I am going to enjoy having a place to go eat at night. Enjoy the new business, support it.

Life is much too short.

@INQUIRT MIND:

The reason I didn't post your last, is because you were being repetitive. You had already stated your dislike for Chan an Holland. There wasn't anything new in you remarks, except it is starting to appear that you are using my blog as a soap box against newcomers to town.We all know about the history of Bob Holland. Why Chan inherited the rancor as well, is a mystery to me. Anyway, the bottom line is that you support the Pation, Scott & Jeanne. I do too. Why you feel that the 'Hook is somehow different, with the same landlord, just different opertors is beyond me. If you have something new, other than spreading your distast for Holland, Chan and apparently anyone that hasn't lived here as long as you, feel free to contribute. I do moderate comments so that my blog doesn't turn into a stump from which others may hijack.
