Agitator-in Chief

Our Agitator-in-Chief  is at it again. It would appear that his only goal is to start a race war in our great country of opportunity. The stories of other areas of conflict like, Baltimore, and other current hot spots in Minnesota and now in Dallas, consistently blamed on the racist white community.

Common. Does anyone remember the peace and tranquility that existed before Obama became head agitator for the radical black community?  No, I didn't think so.

Memories are very short, especially when political agendas are rampant.

This country, with Black Lives Matter and other singular racial issues, is on the edge of a race war. A war that cannot be won by either side, other that the complete destruction of our way of life.

As we stagger toward the November elections, we must ask ourselves who is trying to destroy us?  Obviously, the two predominant candidates are not the most proud representatives of our culture. I can't remember a breach this large in our history, since the Tories and the Whigs.

Bayview Daze Crowds

I got a glimpse of how the settlers felt when their wagon trains were circled with a thousand Indians surrounding them. My isolation was interrupted by large numbers of party types. Mostly from my perch, they were peaceful, but there is always at least on that gets out of line.

The fireworks were magnificent as always. I don't really know what went down in the town center, since I was house bound due to lack of parking. I've got a hitch in my gitalong, so can't walk much.

The weather cooperated and I believe the local businesses prospered.  At least we didn't have a forest fire this year. The Sheriff's Department cracked down on fireworks and after a very short start, officers responded quickly. The folks got the message and desisted.

We here in Bayview hope all of our visitors had a great time. We'll see you next year and the rest of the Summer.

Boaters endangered on Pend Oreille

Boaters on Lake Pend Oreille are urged to watch out for logs and other floating debris after a log boom failed at the Clark Fork Delta’s drift yard. A debris field about 100 yards wide and a quarter mile long has been spotted near Memaloose Island in the lake, according to the Bonner County Sheriff’s Department. Additional logs have been spotted from the Clark Fork Delta to Hope, Idaho. Lt. Ed Jochum of the department’s Marine Division was planning to fly over the lake Wednesday afternoon to get a better idea of how large the affected area is. “It’s moving into the heavy boat traffic area,” he said. “All of it’s a hazard. We’re doing our best to mark it through flagging and solar lights, but it’s going to be impossible to mark every log.”

The boom that catches woody debris flowing out of the Clark Fork River and into Lake Pend Oreille was broken for six hours Tuesday. The breach was discovered around 3 p.m. and a temporary fix was put into place around 9 p.m., said Bill Dowell, a spokesman for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which operates the drift yard. During that time, logs and other debris escaped from the drift yard. Some of the logs with big root wads are easy for boaters to spot, but other material floats just underneath the water, Jochum said/Becky Kramer, SR.

Most likely, the drifting logs will head for Priest River outlet, but don't slam the pedal to the metal in any part of the lake. Having the bottom ripped off is a quick trip to the bottom. Wear you life jackets and slow down

Market Panic

The markets around the world panicked Monday. This wasn't news. World markets revolve around panic, rumor and guesses. There is no logic to the fire drill attitude that investors exhibit.

This is tradition, folks. Traders, the world over, try to stay ahead of the market. Ever heard of this? "The trend is my friend.?" In every day language, this is called second guessing information that hasn't yet developed into reality.

Wait two or three weeks and the market will rebound to where it was. Why? Because it was never really harmed in substance.

New free trade treaties will bloom, panic will subside and Merry England will once again  be the world's oldest democracy.

The Common Market has bloomed into a world government cheering section in which individual countries were being coerced into a European one world government that would have eventually destroyed democracy and the merit system that has made us great.

That Great Britain led the way is a good thing, since we in this country are forgetting out history, our roots, and our traditions. Lest we forget the slavery issue, we inherited it from England, which promptly ceased the importation of African Slaves, which were captured by Arab traders, and or hostile tribes who sold their enemies into slavery.

Our past isn't perfect, but those Millenniums that would wipe the board clean of those historical accomplishments that we achieved are driving this country into a place that is being dug by know  nothings.

Brexit

Given the loss of sovereignty, I'm surprised it ever got off the ground in the first place. This has gone much further than sharing a market place.

From the first, I didn't think a common currency would work due to the diverse economies involved. I Think the entire program will unravel. All these countries can go back to what they did before joining the union. The lack of control over unchecked immigration set it off. Those countries saw and are seeing France and Germany lose their identity due to open borders.

The countries involved need to dust off trade treaties no longer in use and reactivate them as needed.

Exiting the Common Market is not plowing new ground. Europe has ruled independently for centuries.  A new world order is undo able and was doomed to failure. As I understand it, other countries are on the verge of following Great Britain. We are living in interesting times.

What If ... Trump Wins?

I recently read an article that looked forward to a possible Trump win in November. I learned several things I didn't previously know or at least remember.

First, the convention is not obligated to select the nominee's choice for Vice President. Historically it has, as a courtesy, gone along with the nominee's choice. So then, the party establishment could pick a seasoned statesman to run with Trump.

As far as a cabinet goes, the senate always has to vote on appointees, but could go further by sending the president a list of qualified cabinet choices.

Another possibility that occurred to me, is that some of Sander's supporters might switch to Trump. One interesting possibility is since the Democrats abandoned labor unions and other blue color workers, for the ecological extremists, perhaps Trump will bring them into the Republican Party, in a polar shift.

It's kind of hard to imagine the Republican Party as the new champion of labor, but stranger things have happened. After all, according to Bernie, Clinton is controlled by Wall Street. Hm??

Mariners vs. Rays

I guess it was the advent of the tracer that made us all aware of where the strike zone really is, opposed to where the middle aged umps are guessing at it's location. All season, I've been yelling at my TV, which of course is an affliction of us aged ones.

Still, tonight's plate umpire should be canned. His number, I think is 29. I say that because wisely, he never turned his right shoulder toward the camera. His inability to recognize the borderline strike zone kills precision pitchers that like to hit the corners, of which this incompetent couldn't find with a seeing eye dog.

One pitch was almost dead center in the strike zone, but with a submarine pitch he got fooled right along with the hitter.

He couldn't find high or low, nor could he find in or outside pitches that hit the black. His only saving grace, was that he screwed both teams equally.

Bayview Daze Changes

Bayview Daze has some changes. Typically, we have the parade, street fair and fireworks on the Saturday nearest the 4th. This year, because the 4th falls on Monday,  The fireworks display will be Sunday night.

The iconic restaurant, the Button Hook will open next Friday, June 17. The initial hours ill be 4:30 through the dinner hour, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

This will alleviate the over crowding that occurs during  the summer months at the Captain's Wheel, which currently is the only full service restaurant operating in Bayview, Idaho. This blog supports all Bayview businesses equally and without compensation.

I Told You So

For those of you that missed my post of last week where I pointed out the incongruity between opposing both the Canadian pipeline and also the long trains full of Bakken crude, your ship has come in.

When a contest between trains and pipelines carrying oil to the world market places collide, a situation in the Columbia Gorge  occurs. Radical   ecologists, or want of a better term I call Eco-nazis, the point is that blinded by the fervor  stop all carbon fuels, they have lost sight of the marketing of said fuels.

The issue isn't whether we stop selling coal, or oil to the orient. It is whether we, or some other producer does. So the bottom line is convince the Chinese to use smoke stack filters like we do, of like lemmings, protest the transportation industry to stop doing their job.

Coal, from Wyoming and West Virginia will find it's way onto the world markets regardless of opposition from the Sierra Club and their fellow travelers.

Today, several Union Pacific Oil cars are burning furiously in the Columbia Gorge, shutting down Interstate 84. Will you fervent interlopers never learn? You are merely opposing interstate commerce, not the burning of carbon fuels.

First, find doable alternatives, before tearing down current markets.

Coal Trains

I am about to enter the rant zone. I've had it with the lefties bouncing from one anti people issue to another, while trying their best to destroy the human race, so they can more efficiently return our globe to whatever it's natural state was. probably without dinosaurs, though.

These issues are a scam to disguise the real purposes intended. First there was the spotted owls. These silly jerks didn't give a rat's ass about owls. They just wanted to make logging stop. They succeeded in the national forests.

Then there was the pipeline from Canada, connecting existing pipes to the short connector that was to cross the border. There again, it wasn't about how oil is transported, it was and is about stopping the use of coal, oil and anything that burns.

So now the pipeline is dead, Canada is building it's own. So now the howl goes up about the dangers of coal and oil trains passing through Spokane. That is a Trojan Horse as well. These extremists want at all costs to stop the use of carbon based fuels. Folks, you can't have it both ways. You kill the pipeline, more trains. You kill coal ports, Mississippi barges will take their place.

I was born in the late thirties and spent a childhood in the forties watching most everyone burn coal in their cook stoves or heating units. More coal was burned in this country during that period by many times than is used in today's power plants. We had a coal bin with home delivery. The entire foothills of the Bellevue to Puyallup was coal mines back then. Towns like Black Diamond and others were the gifts god created for us.

Many things in life are dirty. Disposing of human waste is dirty, but they haven't figured out a way to stop us from pooping, have they?

It wouldn't be so bad if these philosophically blinded had a substitute, but they don't have one, except nuclear plants, which they oppose as well. Allowing a misguided few to control our future is blatant insanity. You people have created your own  situation. Live with it.

Egypt Air Flight 804

I have some, though not all answers to this event. First, I am a pilot with many hours. Not an airline pilot, but aerodynamics are the same with a Piper Cub and a Boeing 747. Just the applications differ.

At 38,000 ft, where the air is very thin, it's  unstable. The higher the plane flies, the faster it must go to avoid stalling. A severe 90 degree roll to the left would immediately stall the aircraft, which probably caused a snap roll, which is to the opposite direction. That would have resulted either in a spin, or what is called a tight spiral, neither of which would be recoverable in a high performance aircraft.

There are absolutely no jet pilots that practice snap rolls.I have. One scenario, is an electrical short in the rudder control electronics. Remember, these aircraft are fly by wire, which means they use electronics rather than cable and pulleys to control the rudders and ailerons. Or in modern planes, ruddervators and flaperons. If the rudder votes hard left, the aircraft is immediately out of control, resulting in a stall and most likely a fatal spin.

The news programs are pretty much talking about terrorism with very little discussion on flight control malfunction. If, and this is purely speculation, the auto pilot had a glitch causing the rudder to slam to the left, it would have resulted in my scenario seen above.

This doesn't eliminate the terrorist theory of course, but it offers a credible alternative.

The news media, as usual, has jumped too far, too fast at the terrorist theory.

Annuals Invade

This is the annual weekend of the Annuals, a loose group of men that started coming to Bayview well over 30 years ago to party. Eventually most got married and had sons who now come with Dad to this bachelor extravaganza.

Since an unfortunate meeting with a law enforcement officer two or three years ago, Marie Streater has provided a shuttle between the encampment at Farragut and the Marianas in Bayview, protecting everyone from DUI's.

This is  a fun loving group that is well behaved and welcomed by all here in Bayview, Idaho.

Rest In Peace

Two huge memorial/Celebrations of lives occurred Saturday, May 14. One for Lorraine Landwehr, held at Farragut State Park near Bayview, Idaho, and one for Roger Kellmer, held on the patio of J.D.'s Resort.

I was only able to attend the second one here in Bayview, honoring long term resident and good guy, Roger Kellmer. Standing room only was the situation as more than 100 old friends both from Bayview and those he grew up with and worked with from Potlatch and his tire shop in Wallace, Idaho.

I'm told that half the town of Bayview attended the event at Farragut. The other half was at J.D.'s. Many old friends that no longer live here in Bayview, came out to say goodbye to their old buddy, the "Tire man."

Roger excelled at fishing and playing pool. Every Winter he would appear during pool league, and back when he had a ride, on the lake, where "Tire Man" was his marine radio handle.

Though mourning his death was the occasion, I got the impression that it turned out to be more of a joyous party. He would have liked to be host, and maybe he was.

His two daughters, one living in Post Falls, Idaho and the other trekking in from Tennessee, were on the scene, alternatively laughing and crying and many people spoke of their experiences with Roger. It would be nice if they would attempt to visit us in Bayview in the future.

Many remember Mike Dotson, alias Airline Mike. He was unable to attend, since he now lives in West Virginia, sends best wishes to all. He was a good friend of Roger's.

With Liz Justus, Lorraine  for many years ran the Chamber's Bayview Daze activities. Especially the parade. They both will leave a hole in the fabric of Bayview. This has been a year of many of our leading citizens leaving us.The old guard is fast disappearing.

County Council

At the top of the list of qualifications for a commissioner, is integrity. By deliberately cheating on his building permit, Stewart has shown he doesn't have any. He built a beautiful pole barn with a barn like exterior, but in reality it was a luxurious house on the inside.

As a result, he violated building codes and cheated on real estate taxes. Areas that as a councilman he is charged with enforcing. For that reason I am voting for Chris Filios.

The 2 year term is a no brainer. Duane Rasmussen, a moderate Republican attorney is my choice.  You may have other choices, but above all, participate. Bitching about county policies without voting is absurd.

Roger Kellmer R.I.P.

I first met Roger in 1994 when I brought my boat up to Bayview. I moored it at the Captain's Wheel where Roger was day bartender. I then moved to Bayview the next year.

Roger's nickname was the "Tireman." An avid fisherman, that was his handle on the marine radio.

I last saw Roger at the Bayview Mercantile just a few days ago. He was discovered dead in his home when a concerned friend went to check on him. He was a friend to all. He leaves a big hole in the social fabric of Bayview. He will be missed.

Shopping Center Update

There are several challenges to be overcome before the Athol Shopping Center is a reality. First, there is no water to the property, nor a sewer system. Access to Hwy 54 is dependent on ITD deeding an access permit to the property.

Also, Athol must annex the land, plus change the zoning.

As to a Super One anchoring the project, Ron McIntyre told me yesterday that if the hurdles are jumped and the project becomes real, then Super One would be interested in taking a look at it.

Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Athol Shopping Center

After many years commuting to either Hayden or Spirit Lake for Groceries and banking, Athol is about to get a shopping center.

This long awaited development is going to change our lives as no other local improvement has. I don't have a lot of details except I did verify the news with Athol's Mayor, Bob Wachter.

The proposed location is between Howard Road and Highway 95 with access off of Hwy 54.

Rumored is that Super One will be a tenant, which will suit me as I shop at the one in Hayden. As I develop more information, I will pass it on.

Contested Conventions

I have some personal knowledge of contested Conventions, the last being the Democratic Convention in the 1952 election year. This has to go down as the only advantage to my age. I grew up in a liberal democratic family. My parents were poor dirt farmers on a subsistence farm. When they referred to farm equipment horsepower, it was in reference to real horses. To them, the depression years were not kind, and President Franklin Delano Roosevelt was a God.

Naturally, we sat transfixed in front of our first TV set, a black and white picture. You could cut the drama with a dull knife as the favorite, Estes Kefauver went down to defeat, losing to Adlai Stevenson.

*From Wikipedia:

The 1952 Democratic presidential primaries were the selection process by which voters of the Democratic Party chose its nominee for President of the United States in the 1952 U.S. presidential election. These proved inconclusive and the 1952 Democratic National Convention held from July 21 to July 26, 1952, in Chicago, Illinois, was forced to go multiballot.[1]

The expected candidate for the Democratic nomination was incumbent President Harry S. Truman. But Truman entered 1952 with his popularity plummeting, according to polls. The bloody and indecisive Korean War was dragging into its third year, Senator Joseph McCarthy's anti-Communist crusade was stirring public fears of an encroaching “Red Menace”, and the disclosure of widespread corruption among federal employees (including some high-level members of Truman's administration) left Truman at a low political ebb.

Truman's main opponent was populist Tennessee Senator Estes Kefauver, who had chaired a nationally televised investigation of organized crime in 1951 and was known as a crusader against crime and corruption. The Gallup poll of February 15 showed Truman's weakness: nationally Truman was the choice of only 36% of Democrats, compared with 21% for Kefauver. Among independent voters, however, Truman had only 18% while Kefauver led with 36%. In the New Hampshire primary Kefauver upset Truman, winning 19,800 votes to Truman's 15,927 and capturing all eight delegates. Kefauver graciously said that he did not consider his victory "a repudiation of Administration policies, but a desire...for new ideas and personalities." Stung by this setback, Truman soon announced that he would not seek re-election (however, Truman insisted in his memoirs that he had decided not to run for re-election well before his defeat by Kefauver).

When President Harry S. Truman declined the Democratic renomination in 1952, the party had its first open convention since 1932. Negotiations over the various nominees, debates over delegate credentials, and fights over the party loyalty oath resulted in a six-day convention, the longest in post-World War II history. Although ten Democrats were nominated, convention delegates drafted a favorite son--Adlai E. Stevenson of Illinois. President Truman not only endorsed Stevenson but flew to Chicago to ensure his nomination. Backroom negotiations at the Congress Hotel neutralized a "Stop Stevenson" movement, and his supporters clinched his nomination on the third ballot.

*End Wikipedia

Well, the Democrats of 1952 went down to defeat, since war hero, Dwight Eisenhower was elected president and werved 2 terms. But the Democrats survived, and so will the Republican Party. I survived my brain washing and became a Goldwater advocate followed by my involvement with Ronald Reagan in 1965.

No, this isn't a picture of Appalachia during the Great Depression. It is the Evans family, pioneers in Bayview, way back. I'm posting this because I'm sick and tired of politics and decided to change the subject.

A few years ago, I wrote a four part history of Bayview and surrounding areas, assisted by our very own historian, Linda Hackbarth. Although I didn't use this picture in the series I probably should have.

I had a lot of fun researching the history and gained immeasurably knowledge of our area that I otherwise wouldn't have learned.

That history is available in the Spokesman-Review archives under my name, Herb Huseland. Maybe some day I'll drag it out from my hard drive and publish it on this blog.

My next post will probably be about contested nominations which as a kid I watched on black and white TV during the 1950's when they were a regular occurrence.

PC Run Amok

In the 240 years of our nation, no more egregious politically correct act has happened than the announcement of a new picture on our twenty dollar bill. First it was determined that it had to be a woman. Then if that wasn't enough, how about a black woman abolitionist?

My objection isn't that she is not deserving of being honored, it is the degree. Today's announcement that former slave, Harriet Tubman would replace Jackson on the $20 bill. As a famous black neurosurgeon said in his remarks, why replace a famous former president? Why not re activate the $2 bill. Discarding Jackson was unnecessary and a rejection of our past history.

Every time I use a cash machine, I'll be reminded of the severity of how far the Obama administration will go to revise our past. His legacy will definitely linger, but not for good reasons.

Cooks Needed

Our little village of Bayview, nestled on the south end of Lake Pend Oreille needs some help. Two and perhaps three cooks are needed. Call me at 208-9107 if you are interested. I'll see what you are looking for and try to steer you to the best place. Hurry before the word gets out and you miss the chance to work and play here.

College Costs

While the special credit classes in high Schools are a good start in the right direction, it isn't enough. Most students that aspire to higher education are not blessed with rich parents. I have a plan.

I graduated from high school in Renton, Washington in 1956. Probably no more than 20 per cent of my class went on to obtain a college degree. We had a large Boeing plant and other industry for those not wishing to go further in school.

Today, sixty years later, we in this country are importing most of our intellect from India and the orient. These countries are sponsoring their brighter kids to universities in our country. To keep many of these professions for out own brightest kids, I propose a 13th and 14th grade, with college credits and funded in the same way high school is. We would limit these 2 years to students with a 3.0 or better gpa.

Our brain drain has to stop. 14 years ago I traveled to Seattle where the VA imported an associate professor of Radiology to perform a Brake therapy procedure for my prostate cancer. Assisting him were five students, either interns or residents, all from India. In most cases, I take a conservative position. Education isn't one of them.

Play Ball

Thankfully, for us couch slouches, we have another season of every night sports. Baseball.as always,  tends to start awkwardly.

Yesterday, The Mariners got in there own way to make the record books as the first team to limit the other team to one hit and still lose. The uncharacteristic meltdown of the King cost the Seattle team their first win.

Tonight was way different. The Rangers and Mariners faced an inept plate umpire that couldn't seem to find home plate with a seeing eye dog. and when he did, the locations tended to change from pitch to pitch. Since the advent of radar recording  pitch locations, losers should not last very long as plate umpires. This one won't either unless he changes his view.

However, the Mariners changed their direction as dingers and doubles flooded the scoreboard. Scoring 10-2 they destroyed the Texans. The only entertainment was after giving up two home runs and two doubles, former pitcher for the Mariners,  Tom Wilhelmsen. He finished with a deliberate pitch that was the only one that hit the intended target. The Mariners catcher. Ruled intentional, Wilhelmsen was chased, which was a merciful act.

Tomorrow Seattle faces The Rangers again, 6:00 pm our time.

Political Terminology

Many opponents of Donald Trump have labeled his supporters as. "The Great Unwashed," Rednecks and low class blue collar workers. I'm the last person who has the wisdom and/or the ignorance to follow this trend. I can, however, point out some important points.

Many of us Republicans have mixed feelings about this. That the party is being ripped apart is obvious. That it is doomed is not necesarily the case. While the polls and pundits have faced many issues, they haven't yet counted democrats among Trump supporters opposed to republicans.

The pronouncements from the press and pollsters have repeatedly stated that republican votors have in some cases doubled in numbers. This isn't necessarily an indication of a resurgent GOP, but a possible crossover vote from the democratic party and of course thos that never vote. UNTIL NOW!

Broken down, the dems may lose just as many voters as the GOP if Trump wins the nomination. In my view, If Trump becomes our president, we will either become a dictatorship or he will be charged by the congress and convicted by the senate in the early days of his administration.

While terrorist are attacking all over the world, we may be hoisting one into the most powerful position in the world, by popular vote. God help us all.

Back When

I started blogging in June of 2005. Yesterday, I went back to the beginning to see what was still valid today. I wrote one about the economy just as we were sliding into the great recession, but before it became obvious. Here is a link to that post which I believe is even more appropriate today than back then. Perhaps I will be the new male Cassandra.

Brokered Conventions

Since the advent of primary elections, brokered conventions have become rare. But let me tell you how it used to be.

Many candidates in high delegate states would run as favorite sons. When the conventions occurred, bargaining began. Sometimes the favorite coming into the convention would lose to a candidate that may have started out as a dark horse.

This was due to many delegations would send uncommitted delegates to the convention, who would then horse trade for what they wanted from the new president designate. My family used to sit for hours as 10 and more ballots would take place. Finally, a state would switch candidates and a nomination would happen.

Folks this was the way it was back in the 1950's. Whore houses in Nevada had better reputations than convention delegates. Still it was great entertainment. The price is right and do you want to be a millionaire of today wasn't as entertaining.

The roll calls were tense, as you would hear, "Mr Chairman, the great state of (fill in the blanks) cast all 38 of it's votes for (fill in the blanks) the next president of the United States of America.

These would usually take the place of a chamber of commerce with some taking 10 minutes to announce their selection while we the audience hung on every word as we sat on the edge of our seats.

This wasn't democracy in action so much as representing the smoke filled room strategies of the day. The closest we can come to those days are the states that still use caucuses that represent a small fraction of the electorate.

Whether this type of convention happens this year, only time will tell. The pundits tell us that it is extremely possible  that the clown named Trump may not have enough votes to trump ( I couldn't resist) the other wannabes.

After the first ballot or so, depending on the individual state's rules, if a majority isn't there, the bargaining begins. If anyone wonders why some candidates suspended their campaigns rather than dropping out, they still have their delegates to bargain with come the convention.

Let the carnival begin as most of us traditional republicans, (Neither Tea Party, Constitutionalists, libertarians, etc) try to squirm out of the prospect that we may have of a president Clinton or Trump.

Aging

I just passed midnight of my seventy-eighth year. I did this by staying awake until after midnight.Today I am not sure why I did this, except I wasn't sure I would make it this far.
Tomorrow I Will wake up as as it were.  I will awaken to the realities of aging. Until then I will celebrate having dodged he grim reaper this long.May your coming year be as fruitful as mine has.

Belgium Burns

Most of us have read or at least heard about the siege of Troy and the story of the Trojan Horse. Certainly, this story fits perfectly with today's refugee crisis, and thousands of Muslims, some of them Jihadists, being welcomed into Europe and here in the USA.

The Paris massacre, followed by the arrest of the last perpetrator in Belgium apparently triggered today's mass bombing of the Brussels airport and subway train terminals. Leaving hundreds severely injured and many dead.

Europe, after welcoming hundreds of thousands refugees from Syria and other hot spots without a doubt from any sane person, resulted in a free for all for these terrorists.

The open door policy spawned by the UN and our don't call them "Islamic or Muslim terrorists" president, have opened up Pandora's box for these brutal thugs. The only challenge now is a pathway to explosives, which is a simple thing.

The oath a president takes, is to protect our constitution and our citizens from attack. Not to play golf in Cuba.Obama is so entwined with his ultra liberal philosophy, that practical matters are not on his agenda.

Perhaps impeachment would be in order, except during an election year, he could commit murder in front of 20 witnesses and the senate would still not convict. One wonders what will be left of our country between now and January 20, 2017.

Many politicians of the left, have coined the term,"Fear " when discussing this problem. This is terminological spin. To suggest that concern over national security is emotional, rather than logical preparedness.

Dick Hansen, R.I.P

I have no details, but Dick a long time forester, retired, and owner along with wife Shirley died yesterday.

They own the Bitter End Marina along with extensive acreage on the north side of Cape Horn Road. More when I get it. Dick is one of the most respected people in town and many other places.

I would like to add that I feel we in Bayview, and other places have lost a giant of a man. He will be missed. My condolences to Shirley, his wife, and to his children and grand children.

**cdlarkin, by email

Hi Herb, sorry to hear about Dick's passing, he was our Forestry Instructor in 1965-1967 at North Idaho Junior College, we were the first class in Forestry, about 25 students. Dick was quiet, but very well versed and  respected and we learned a lot from him. RIP my friend!

Freedom of Speech

Freedom of speech apparently means different things to different people. The Move On agitators apparently only believe that it applies to them, not to those that have different views.

Refusing the right of others to speak freely and for those interested to hear that speech has no relationship to free speech. It is bordering on riot and denying others to gather for a lawful purpose.  Extremists from both the far left and far right don't get it. though those on the far left have a tendency to get violent more.

As I watched the cancelled speech at the University of Illinois unfold, it struck me that the campuses teach leftist beliefs and foster that born in the '60's I am not a supporter of Trump, but I do support his Right and that of his followers to congregate together.

The gathering of a diverse  bunch of agitators didn't promote free speech, they denied it.   If our college campuses intend to put up with this kind of behavior, perhaps federal funding should be withheld along with subsidized tuition. You teach hard core misbehavior, it will cost you.

Irv Leifer, R.I.P.

Some of you may have read the story that Irv Leifer, basketball coach at Renton High school died this past week. But he was much more than that.

He taught my P.E. class when I was in Jr High School at Renton Jr-Sr high back in the 1950's.I was a basketball manager, which meant we shagged balls, handed out towels and such. We also carried the Seattle Times paper route which included Irv Leifer. He use to call me Husie.

I was at the game when Renton, dominated Elma high school for the state championship. George Struger was a 6 '5" Center that was as wide as he was tall. Elma had a 7'1" center that was a string bean, having to take oxygen during time outs. Struger dominated the key, not letting the skinny kid anywhere near the basket.Renton won.

In 1953 through 1956 when I graduated from Renton, we were the largest high school in the state.
Renton had a couple of career coaches, in Leifer and John Suzic. Suzic's daughter and husband, recently retired from hydroplane racing.

I don't think I've ever met a nicer teacher, nor any other man. Still he was very intense in his training athletes Here is a link to the story in the Seattle Times.

2016 Election

After observing all of the debates, I have come to the conclusion that the candidates belong in a circus, center ring. I have voted in general elections since 1960 and have never seen anything like this.

Fasten your seat belts 'cause it's going to be a wild ride. I believe this glut of Republican candidates is akin to a feeding frenzy. Seeing the Democrats vulnerable, everyone wanted into the race. Unfortunately, the old saw, "too many cooks spoil the broth" comes to mind.

Donald Trump could very well become the Republican nominee, simply because the other bunch are knocking each other off, while the Redneck branch is sailing along blissfully. After talking to many of Trump supporters I have reached a conclusion. Trump supporters don't care about anything other than throwing our government under the bus and bring in fresh talent.

That would be fine, if only the outsiders have any talent other than the ability to make loud noises.

Buckle up because the term unintended consequences will be a radical departure from how office holders have been elected in the past. The fact that the GOP has more registered voters than ever before would be great if they weren't so unsophisticated. We now have Larry the cable guy as our majority.

Our choices are between an avowed Socialist, a woman facing criminal charges and on the other side, A Tea party type, a second generation Cuban and egotistic buffoon capable  of squandering a fortune that he inherited. God help us all.

Food Porn

Due to a limited income, I don't eat out much, Occasionally the delicious tacos at Ralph's or the great fish & chips at the Captain's Wheel.

But I got a great surprise yesterday when the 'Wheel served up a chicken dinner special for only $10 bucks. Three pieces of fried chicken, southern style, nice and brown, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The dinner included mashed potatoes and gravy, Coleslaw and garlic bread.

I don't know how much they ordered or sold, but I'd get right down there before they run out. It was an outstanding dining experience.

Future Republican Party

If Donald Trump wins the Republican Nomination, there are three possible outcomes. One, he loses to Hilary Clinton. Two, he destroys the Republican Party.Three, he totally changes the demographics of the party into a vast unknown place.

It is clear that he leads a portion of the electorate that probably hasn't voted often or even ever. The majority of these supporters like that he sounds about like the voter would themselves, totally forgetting that they wouldn't be qualified to lead the country either.

It would help if Trump had a political agenda so we would have a reference point to measure him by. He definitely isn't a conservative, nor is he especially religious, yet Charismatic Christians are flocking to him, with notable exceptions.

The founder of Hobby Lobby, who went to the Supreme Court over religious rights, has characterized Trump as a non-Christian who uses name calling and a heightened volume to out shout the other candidates and even the moderators at the debates.

His insults apparently resonate with many, but certainly not educated, successful people. Perhaps a sudden awakening will take place before it is too late, if it isn't already, but I'm not counting on it. The inmates, are now running the asylums.

Collective Insanity Rules Our Nation

It is beginning to look like the nation's collective sense has flown the coop. Suddenly, people, many of which have repeatedly refused to vote, have decided in their infinite wisdom that they will now vote.

Unfortunately they will vote for a narcissistic buffoon that has absolutely no conservative credentials. Not even moderate ones. For Rubio to lose Florida, it would be not only a disaster for him, but for the country as well.

Many of these people care only about hearing an echo of their anger. Winning in November doesn't seem to matter. I worry for our country.Neither Trump nor Clinton will give us good government.

We are collectively committing national suicide through the ignorance of the newly discovered electorate. I am more fortunate than most younger people. I won't have to live under the rapid decline of this nation for very long. I'm thinking of having my dead body shipped to Canada in protest.

With Rubio projected to lose his home state of Florida tells me one thing. The Cuban voters are registered democrats. He should be able to walk away with Florida with it's huge population of former Cubans, and their citizen children.

I can see this loose cannon starting a world war. With his temper and proclivity for name calling, his foreign policy will not exist. Trump is resisting disclosure of his tax returns, saying they are complicated. Sure, he probably isn't paying any taxes at all.

With Hillary Clinton, in a race to get nominated before she is indicted, is not a viable choice.  I hope this country's voters will wake up to the realities, but I don't hold much hope for that.

***Post Thursday debate:

After watching the debate for about 30 minutes, I finally had to turn it off. It was a shouting match akin to a bar fight. Trump never let a speaker complete his presentation without interrupting, usually by talking over the other candidates in a louder voice. The debate was controlled and dominated by Donald Trump.

CNN, who (ahem) moderated this fiasco, totally lost control. They should have shut off Trump's mic after he blatantly took over.

Blogfest

Let me dispel some rumours. I did not skip the party because I was angry, or any other negative emotion. I simply woke up Saturday morning too lazy to get going.

Whether I am depressed or just have the mid-winter blues, I don't know. I just couldn't get motivated enough to get going. Essentially, my get up and go got up and left.

I missed seeing many of you that I have visited with over the years. Hopefully, this is a temporary condition and I will snap out of it soon. Greetings to all of you that noticed I wasn't present.

Rabbit Found

A tame domestic rabbit was found out on Hudson Bay Road. Here is the message I received:

Can you get a word out on this Rabbit found on Hudson Bay road last night
We have it at home and if no one claims it we need to find it a good home.

Iraq/Syria

Today's paper announced an agreement by the world powers for a cease fire in the disputed lands. Except ...

Yes this agreement is full of holes. Russia can still bomb the insurgents battling Syria's government troops, calling them terrorists.

Turkey, a NATO member is bombing the Peshmerga, they most powerful opponent of ISIS.  The U.S. is bombing those that are left over.

This inevitability started at the close of WW 1, when the Ottoman Empire was divided up among the neighboring countries. Unfortunately, Kurdistan was dissolved and given to Iraq, Syria and Iran. This has caused a continuing war for independence  by this group that are Muslims, but not of the type approved by other sects.

Until this century old injustice is resolved,  and new borders set, there will be war in the middle est perpetually. I see Iran annexing southern Iraq, the Kurds the north and Sunni Muslims he center.

Syria is such a mess that My imagination cannot conjure u[ a solution. The world is on fire with very little leadership, other than power plays, is being featured by the world powers. God help us all.

Saturday Debate

Governor Christie took on a Trump like attitude when he attacked Senator Rubio for staying on message, by stating it was repetitious and suggested he had no other views. He was wrong. There is great precedent for repetitious speeches

Back in 1964, an actor without any political experience started his political career running for a first term as California Governor. He gave the same speech over and over. We used to refer to it as, "The speech." He won that election and then another, bringing California back from the brink of bankruptcy. His constant referral to Lord Action's famous words, "power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts, absolutely."

He applied conservative principles, but still was able to work with Jesse Unrah (sp) and a democratic legislature. His name was Ronald Reagan. I knew him before he took office in 1966 and mc'ed a speech he gave in Santa Ana, California. He too, gave the same speech over and over. Two reasons that worked, one he touched the collective souls of the majority of voters, many of whom were democrats.

He wasn't foolish enough to think he could govern with just the far right. The John Birch Society was very active in Orange County back then, but he never caved in to their extremism.

Another example, a Democrat, John F. Kennedy, was a freshman senator who gained the voters needed because he had an outgoing personality and warmth. Senator Rubio doesn't need to change his speech and has in common Kennedy as an example of an inexperienced candidate winning and for the most part, considering his short tenure, did OK.

Rubio exudes warmth and personality that none of the other candidates have in abundance. He can win in November where the others cannot. Running him off is a guarantee of another Democratic presidency. In this time in our history, it is critical to oust the Dems, who in their eight years with Obama and Hillary as Secretary of State, has the world on fire, because the most powerful nation on earch, dithers with a program of converting this country into something less than a capitalist place where succes is up to the individual, not a federal bureaucracy.

New Hampshire

As we move from Iowa to New Hampshire, the dynamics have changed. Now we have Cruz, Trump and even Bush, taking shots at Rubio. That tells me rather transparently, that they are afraid of the momentum that Rubio is generating.

In my 78 years, which includes the election of John F. Kennedy in 1960, I find this the best parallel to Rubio. Kennedy was an inexperienced Senator that elevated his campaign through the wonder of television. The boyish face, the bouffant hair and the force of his personality got him elected over the stoic Richard Nixon. Later, the rigid right wing libertarianism  cost Goldwater all but two states.

There are some parallels with Marco Rubio, who has two things that stand out. First, as in the Kennedy campaign, it wasn't about issues, it was about slogans and personality. Many, if not most voters identify with those traits. how many of you remember the electric quote, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." That ranks right up with the Gettysburg address.

We'll never know whether Kennedy would have made a great president or not. His life cut short,  death made him more famous than his accomplishments. But many airports and other monuments were named after him.

My point here is this. some of us Republicans  tend to value philosophical purity over winning. Given that all office seekers, from both parties spout nothing but platitudes while campaigning, the reality is that personality wins.

Of the remaining Republican candidates, Trump, Rubio, Cruz and possibly Kasich and Bush, if they survive New Hampshire, the personality of Rubio shines above all of the rest. This is important because of those that are looking beyond the primaries and conventions, want a candidate that can like Kennedy, relate to the people with warmth and a positive attitude and win in November, which in the early frays sometimes escapes voters minds.

Iowa

Tonight, we find out whether common sense prevails, or insanity does. Choosing a Narcissistic billionaire Buffoon, a nasty name caller, or one of several other intelligent leaders as Iowa's choice for Republican nominee for president.

As I watch the polls, I have lost hope that our citizenry has retained it's collective sanity. How a non-conservative no nothing Blowhard could lead these polls defies logic. Hopefully the citizens of Iowa are pulling our legs.

If we end up with Trump and Sanders as the choices, the suicide rate in this country will soar.

Irony

In choosing to skip the Republican debate tonight, the press has given Trump many times more press than if he had attended. Donald Trump may be a Narcissistic Joke, but he sure do know how to generate attention.

I, as many other mainstream Republicans, sincerely hope that when the dust settles, we don't have a ticket with Clinton vs. Trump. Or for that matter, a president that turns out to be a Canadian citizen.

I keep hoping that our electorate will allow common sense to prevail. But then I look at Burns, Oregon and realize that not everyone has any.

Winning The Battle, Losing The War

My party, the Republican party, has a history of valuing principle over winning. This of course is fool hardy. You cannot apply principle unless you are elected. Ergo, we can win the battle, but lose the war.

Both parties are drifting more and more to the right and left every election cycle. The Wackos on both extremes simply work harder for control than those of us who have a life and career outside politics.

Unfortunately, with roughly 30% hard core right wing, and another 30% hard core left wing, it isn't the doctrinaires that win elections, it's the 40% in the middle, sometimes called the silent majority. These voters, will either pick a candidate that match their views the best, or at least is most likely to beat the other party.

These people middle of the road, or moderates. Why we continuously select the most doctrinaire candidates, which will and cannot stand a prayer of winning, is a puzzle to me. In Iowa, which hold it's caucuses in a week, the candidates are sparing with who has the most hard right qualifications, when they should be looking at who has the charisma to woo the electorate.

Originally I was for Carson, but when he, along with the fool billionaire threatened to bolt the party if the convention is brokered, lost me right there. Cruz is confrontational, insulting and doesn't have an ounce of charisma.

Of the two that could ably lead the country, Rubio and Bush, Rubio does have that charisma that will play well on television, Bush does not.

For these reasons I am backing Rubio. Please join me.

Winter Is Retreating

While the East is reeling under a blizzard that hit about 2:30 ET, our winter is retreating. Yesterday marked the first over 40 degree temperatures since before Christmas and the big snow. The long range forecast is for rain and grey skies, but mostly above freezing except at night.

My brother and sister-in-law winter in the Tampa, Florida area and are experiencing severe thunderstorms, while the eastern seaboard is expecting storm surges bringing ocean front flooding, exacerbated by a full moon which brings higher tides.

While I prefer 80 degrees and sunny, considering what others are putting up with, I'll take the rain. You don't have to shovel it. Just hunker down with your favorite beverage and partner. It's snuggle time.

Missing Dog, Maverick

Hello Herb,
I'm the grandma of this pup, and the mother of the owner, Marisa. We are heartbroken about our missing Maverick. He has been out, on the move for 17 days now and we are all exhausted! I'm asking a big favor of you...post this flyer for your viewers to see, that's all. My daughter Marisa, the owner of Maverick, is a living kidney donor as of June 24,2015, she selflessly, at the age of 23, gave a kidney to her father to keep him off of dialysis while finishing her degree as a registered nurse.  This fur baby means everything to her and us. Unfortunately, New Year's Eve he ran off due to fireworks from our house in Rathdrum. We have been driving in circles for hours each day in hopes of running into him with no luck. An occasional sighting causes a fleet of vehicles to rush to the area but by the time we receive the call and travel, he is long gone. We need help in spotting our Maverick since he seems to move around so often. Please post this flyer in your blog , as I know how many locals follow you.

Sincerely,
Nola Watson
208-818-3392

Sorry I couldn't copy and print the poster, since it is a png which blogger doesn't accept. I assume you have checked with animal control. Keep checking regularly. Dogs go missing every time fireworks are exploded. Never let a dog stay outside when this is happening. I wish you luck in finding the dog.

Bayview Tourist Accomodations

Someone has been commenting on that my 2012 post needs updating. Going back to try to find a post that old is time consuming. Here's a better way.

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Tourism-g35387-Bayview_Idaho-Vacations.html

I'm Outraged

A story in this morning's Spokesman-Review provoked outrage on several levels. It seems Planned Parenthood, otherwise known as an abortion mill, has endorsed Hillary Clinton for president.

I don't know whether Planned Parenthood is a non-profit or not. If it is they shouldn't be politically active. It it is a for profit corporation, then why is it singled out for federal subsidies?

What we have here is a group that receives federal subsidies, then turns around and spends a reported $20,000,000 on a political campaign. Money that is derived from all citizens, not just Democrats.

I can't think of any other private corporation that receives federal funding. Is it just cheer leading by abortion supporters? Or is it an illegal act.

Trump

I have been watching debate regarding Trump and his over the top coverage. First let me say that whether it be a newspaper, a TV network or any other new/opinion source, controversy rules. Ratings are all about the need for this anomaly.

While Trump stumbles through gaff after gaff, it is obvious that many are sick and tired of the bloviating of this Narcissistic Jerk. But he is speaking to the segment of voters that are sick and tired of the old same old same crap emulating from both sides and  don't seem to care about his comportment.

I think it is time to step back and examine these candidates on the basis of would they function as good presidents, or would they blow up our system of government ever worse that our current president has. Regardless of Trump's appeal to the blue collar unsophisticated citizen that more often than not hasn't voted in years.

Angry is alright, but it must be modified by common sense. We must choose not just a man or woman that says "That's right," but a person that can calmly navigate the complicated issues that govern us.

Being a guy that resonates with the dissatisfied voter, if in fact they vote at all,  isn't enough. I haven't picked a candidate yet, though I do have some ideas. I supported Ben Carson right up to the day he threatened to leave the party if a brokered convention were to evolve. Committing suicide as Republicans unfortunately is a tradition,  and destroying the Republican Party is not a rational way to go and would lead to the unraveling of our constitutional system.

We already have an inexperienced, unqualified Demagogue as president. We do not want or need another who wants to play outside constitutional government. Another could cause a constitutional emergency.

Tourist Accomodations

I received a comment on a 2012 post concerning Bayview tourist accommodations. The comment suggested that I update this information. OK fine, but no input. If anyone wants information to help the blog's accuracy, then you need to give me feedback. I can be reached at ayviewherb@gmail.com.

El Nino Sucks

When they said we are dangerously entering an irreversible warming trend, I believed them. When they said we have a very strong El Nino, I believed them then, too.  Well, I don't believe them anymore.

I have a foot of snow in my yard, no snow tires, (They said I wouldn't need them) and I doubt I could make it up the hill to get them mounted. In short, I'm stuck until the temperatures get above freezing.

This isn't going to happen any time soon. We are predicted to have single digit temperature and even a possibility of reaching zero.

In the last week or so I have lost power three different nights. Apparently the snow loads on the area trees, of which we abound, are losing limbs which then seek out the nearest power line.

From Athol to Bayview is seven miles. A while back Kootenai Electric installed higher power poles to avoid falling trees. Trees grew more and there are not enough taller poles around to take them higher. We need the co-op to get real and bury the main transmission lines separating the two towns.

In the mean time, I'll snivel a ride to the Mercantile for needed supplies.

Happy New Year, Everyone, but don't believe THEM.

Christmas 2015

As I sit here looking at a white landscape, I realize I should have used a low light setting, but with all that bright white out there, who knew? It is Christmas Eve and there are creatures stirring all over the place. Bald Eagles feasting on spawned out Kokanee, Seagulls and about 20 or so Canadian Greese that don't seem to know which direction south is.

Currently, I am snowed in. There is just too much snow imprisoning my car for an old Fart like me to try to dig out. So I guess I'll wait for Mother Nature to swing the pendulum back to melting temps. This doesn't cause blisters or heart attacks and requires nothing but patience.

I am stocked up with food and other necessities, so I'm just hunkered down waiting for Global Warming to return. Here's a picture of my car and it's coating of snow. Earlier it was hub cap deep but warmer temperatures has shrunk it some.

It is currently snowing ... Again. The temp is about 33 degrees so it won't probably stick but later is another story.

What with the two major wind events plus several days of snow along with two nights in a row that the power went out, I would say we will remember this year for a very long time.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

Weather, Whether

Among the dire predictions of being buried in snow today through Christmas, it is calm and too warm for snow in Bayview, Idaho. 36 degrees with light rain at 1:00 pm.

Wildly differing weather guessers swing radically from warm rain to getting buried in heavy snow today. We are though, sliding into a colder pattern which probably will assure a White Christmas this year.

I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone out there a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Fof those that have no moral compass nor spiritual guide, I wish this for them too. Even though Happy Holidays is the best they can do.

What amazes me though, is how non-believers get agitated over the beliefs of others. Hey, live your own lives, not that of others.

Anyway, drive safely and at a minimum during bad weather.Getting to your destination late is much preferable to not getting there at all.

Bayview Storms

One of, if not the most prevenent reason for storms bypassing Bayview, is that we lay directly east of and in the shadow of Mount Spokane. If you are driving west on hwy 54 after dark you are looking directly at the lighted night skiing areas of that mountain.

As I followed the path of the current storm since yesterday pm, there was a split in the storm front on a direct line from Mt. Spokane to and through Bayview with the main thrust going both north and south of us.

This is consistant with most previous weather disturbances. The intial storm front missed us completely, but later in the evening we didn't escape. The reason was the weather was approaching us from the southwest rather than directly west.

We as of this writing have received about five inches of shovelable global warming, with a current condition of ice pellets. Our ever efficient Lakes Highway District was out about an hour ago plowing Lime Kiln Road and other Bayview streets. I haven't ventured out yet and probably won't due to the prediction of freezing rain coating the snow covered venues, but I would guess that the state has already cleared Hwy 54 between Bayview an Athol. Snow is still forecast for Christmas and will probably stick around until December 28.

Stay home if you don't have to drive as there are many slide offs and out of control vehicles out there. Every year we get a significant first snow, we are greeting new move ins and teens that are seeing their first snow from behind the wheel.

White Christmas?

For the last two weeks Accuweather has been predicting a white Christmas. They show a high of 33 Christmas Eve with snow lasting through December 25 with sub freezing highs through December 28.

While white Christmas' are rare here, this powerful El Nino is proving to be unpredictable, bringing much need moisture to the area, with seasonable temperatures dropping.

Accuweather is predicting 4 to 8 inches of the white stuff for Thursday, which should make commuting interesting. For me, time to hunker down and enjoy the view.

For tomorrow, 12/17 here is a link to Accuweather:

4G LTE

Television airways are being dominated by two types of commerials. One, Direct TV and the other, Internet Providers. (I think) Today, we are going to deal with 4G LTE, whatever that is. You see, none of the advertising explains that. Either they assume that we are all computer programers, or ... Maybe, just maybe, there is no such thing as 4G LTE.

You know, a secret code like gasoline additives that make one company's gas burn better than the others. That would be cool if it weren't that it all comes out of the same tank. Anyway, I digress.

While I don't have a clue what 4G LTE is, or whether I need it, even. After 77 years of life, I haven't missed it, whatever it is. I doubt it puts meat and potatoes on the table. My phone works a little different than my dial instrument did years ago insofar as it works somehow through Time-Warner. How is another mystery.

Why is it so prevalent that the only person that actually knows whether one, it exists and two, whether it is needed for anything, is on the Coeur d'Alene City Council?

Yet customers are apparently, or they think so, scrambling over each other trying to get more of it. I suspect that when two cans connected with a string were invented, someone claimed they had a better quality string for sale.

In the Bayview people are neighborly category, I had something happen to me that hadn't for many years. My fuel gauge was dead on empty. Not wanting to make it just half way to Athol, the closest gas station which is 8 miles away, Gary MacDonald jumped in his rig and brought me gas. What a guy.

Kaylee was Jerry and Jaime's together. J.D. was Derric and Jaime's and the two younger ones were Derrick's from a previous relationship.

Dave remarried to Suzy, has a second family of three. The children are Markayla, age 15, Isaiah, age 14 and Ashara, age 9.

Jaime worked her way through first nursing school, the the MS program while taking care of a family. She already has a job lined up at Pikeville Community Hospital in Pikeville, Kentucky. But she isn't through quite yet. She plans on getting her doctorate in another two or three years.

This success story comes from a family that has lived in Bayview at least three generations and is well respected throughout the community.

Congressional Uniforms

Well, this didn't fit the blog, but what a great idea. I just wish they would have included a picture of the Senator from Nevada, the most corrupt of them all, Mr Reid.

A facility, including a lodge and/or resort cabins, and other supporting ancillary buildings, with or without food service, that serves as a destination point for patrons and that relies on its rural location and the natural environment to provide recreational opportunities and activities such as horseback riding, hiking, fishing, and boating. A widely circulated E-mail opposing this proposed land use ordinance is out there spitting virulent opposition without actually telling us what it says. A hearing is going to be held at the Kootenai County Administration Building 6:00 pm tonight.

Here is the e-mail in opposition:

Educated Speculation

For starters, I spent 2 years in Morocco during the 1955's I have some, rather outdated knowledge of Moslem customs. First, before you correct me, the term Moslem was then prevalent as well as Mohammedan.  Only in the 1980's and beyond was the term Muslim recognized which became along with American Black Musims, the new term.

In the Arabic world, most marriages are arranged, not chosen by lovers. Not only do they not have a choice, but to make sure they don't get swept off their feet by a future lover, they are surgically emasculated, having their clitoris cut off. Bottom line, Arabic countries still practice these atrocities.

Back to the obvious. Syed Farook takes a trip to Saudi Arabia. Why, we don't know, and here is where my speculation begins. He meets his future wife in 2014, applies for a fiance passport and brings her to the USA.

First, and going back to the arranged marriage concept, I believe he was matched up with Tashfeen Malik by Islamic Terrorists. For a purpose. He infiltrated  his fiance into the community, and had a 6 month old baby all in one year's time.

Suddenly, money begins to arrive. weapons are purchased. Ammunition is stockpiled. A plan is born. All planned back in Saudi Arabia one year ago. Does it makes sense? Perhaps. At least it explains a lot that remains unknown.

Rome Burns

Watching President Obama in denial over Islamic Terrorists, citing global warming as the greatest threat to our country reminds me of the historical burning of Rome while Nero played the fiddle.

I have thought that this man without any training would do poorly as president. What I didn't anticipate was what appears to be a conscious effort to tear this country down in the pursuit of left wing ideals. The global warming, human caused is just a continuation of the Spotted Owl, tree hugging, destroy fossil fuels (without a viable subsitution)

It is simply a reckless attempt to force socialist government on our beloved Capitalistic constitutional system. Government by extremists will kill our great country, whether left wing or right wing. Both are extremely dangerous.

We survived Carter, just barely, after he cut back our military by half. Obama is attempting to do the same. Rather than cutting our military and Navy, we should be doubling them. We cannot sustain our military by deploying them over and over to combat situations. This cries out for rotation. Military families are being torn apart by constant separation.

The cost of Obama Care is careening out of control, with only government subsidies keeping it afloat. The problem here is our budget cannot stand the huge amounts of subsidy being spent. Congress is threatening Social Security and Medicare so they can pound more money down the subsidy rat hole.

We as a country are ignoring Islamic Terrorism that has already shown it can pop up anywhere. Our borders and immigration policies are porous and policies that want to bring more refugees in from Syria would probably work if only the sects like Yadizi and Christians that  are being exterminated are allowed in. The sole principle of the federal government is military protection both from outside our borders and inside as well. The oath that military officers take is that they will protect our country from threats, foreign and domestic.

If we don't wake up, nominate a president that can unite us, rather than go back into extremist havens like we have now.

No Mr President, The Supreme court has already ruled on the 2nd amendment. Those that persist in trying to pretend it is still a hot issue are most likely partaking of banned substances.  Rather than banning guns, why not crack down on mental patients, crackpots and illegal immigrants that have guns. The NRA is not suicidal. Show them a viable solution to ownership by those not able to responsibly use them and they will come around. Threaten them constantly with total bans will continue the argument. One argument from the NRA is not valid. We need to track gun sales both private and public in order to recover stolen weapons. Gun shows are totally unregulated as to stolen guns, sales to those not responsible people. An illegal can traipse into a gun show, buy a military weapon and disappear into the woodwork until something like San Bernardino happens.

End of rant...

20th Aniversary

Recently, my older brother Stan Huseland, who is a graduate of the UW School of Journalism and later a PR flack for Indiana Hwy dept and later, Blue Cross of Indiana, chided me about missing the 20th anniversary of the great escape. The great escape is something I did when I first moved to Bayview back in 1995.

Prior to my moving here and having a career in Mortgage lending, I had a pretty good idea of what right-of-way law was. Nearing home just before the fourth of July Weekend, I encountered a Pretty personable young lady who was stationed at the Kiosk still standing forlorn in the medium opposite park headquarters. This happened only after I inched forward behind three RV's who were happily being welcomed by said young lady. When I finally worked my way up to her, I said, "You cannot barricade a state highway. It's illegal." She replied, you can if it goes through a state park. I said, bet me... and the fight was on.

Here are some of the things that I had no idea my brother had obtained, nor cataloged and kept. Here are some of the documents that most of you have never heard of. If the print is too small on the clippings, left click on them to enlarge.

Financial Equality

Not a day goes by without a news reference to the Federal Reserve's low interest rate program that has gone on for years now. But there is a catch. For every action there is an equal reaction. A yin to the yang, an up and a down.

While everyone talks about easy credit and low interest rates, nothing is said about the thousands of retirees who while working throughout their careers, scrimped, saved and invested. These investments were usually interest bearing instruments.

These retirees had planned to live off of the interest from these investments. All of that, the collapse of senior income is the direct result of the manipulations of the Federal Reserve, who apparently do not consider retirement income terribly important.

This imbalance is forcing many into poverty. Into living on the principle instead of the earnings through interest. This is a disgrace.

After The Storm

Before I get into today's topic, I would like to thank all of you that follow my blog. In the last two days while I was focused on other things, my page views hit 400,256 in the ten years I have been posting here.

For those of you that do not reside in the Spokane/Coeur d'Alene area, we were hit with a record breaking wind storm Tuesday night that produced winds in excess of 70 mph, knocking down trees, destroying roofs and creating micro bursts that turned trees into helicopters, twisting trees off several feet off the ground. this phenomenon  is like a miniature tornado with vertical circular winds picking randomly sited trees.

After a 20 hour wait for power to be restored, I was fortunate that it was only one tree that blackened all of Bayview. Kootenai Electric fixed the downed wire on Perimeter Road and by 2:00 pm, the lights came back on.

As I mentioned yesterday on Huckleberries on line, I was driving north on hwy 95 when stopped at a traffic light. In front of me was an SUV with two messages on the back window. One was religious, the other a picture of a lineman on a power poll. The caption was, "Firemen have heroes, too." How timely was that?

It isn't over for those living in Spokane, though. Avista is predicting 3 to 5 days before power is restored in all areas of the city. To compound this is a polar front arriving which will drop nighttime temperatures into the low 20's and down to the teens Friday and Saturday nights. Not only do we need power crews, but plumbing companies will be needed for frozen pipes.

This problem is close to home as my youngest son, daughter-in-law and five granddaughters aging from 17 down to a 2 year old toddler and a two month old baby live in North Spokane and are without power. No heat, No cooking, no refrigeration, nothing. In one stroke from nature, hundreds, maybe thousands are reduced to survival mode, with public services overwhelmed.

Traffic has to be snarled with stop light inoperative at the many busy intersections. This most likely is producing massive traffic jams as people attempt to relocate where power is available. Those people that have generators are very fortunate, but if you do, be sure to isolate the power source at the meter, so that you don't feed power into that the repair people think is a dead line. Electrocution is very possible.

One of the biggest problems is that people are not getting news or weather reports. For those of you that are reading this, be aware of very cold temperatures forecasted for the next several days at or around 20 degrees at night. Dribble your faucets so that your plumbing won't freeze and try to relocate to friends or relatives homes until power is back on.

PS: Now they are predicting 4-8 inches of snow Monday pm and Tuesday followed by very cold temps Wednesday. Thanksgiving travel will be interesting this year.

Tellin like it is

I have two issues today. One, a laugh over the reaction over my post about Ben Carson. First, although DFO thought I was going to get slammed in the comments, a luke warm reception was heard from only from the radical left. I find the radical left as odious  as the radical right. None of them are from this earth.

The second and much surprising, was watching the televised basketball game between Texas and the University of Washington, played in Shanghai, China. Toward the end, the announcer and the former basketball star from UCLA started gushing about the Communist Revolution and it's leaders, historical points tied to the revolution. Perhaps, wrapped up in sports, they never heard of the atrocities that occurred and are still occurring in Communist China, still the most repressive nation on this earth..

Thanks to China and their Army-Navy owned corporation, Alibaba, which sponsored the event, a huge propaganda coup was realized by China, without giving anything in return such as freedom of expression or personal liberty. Personally, while finding nothing wrong with sporting exchanges, the ignoring of blatant aggression toward human rights, is despicable. Sometimes, just keeping your mouth shut is the best path. I would hate to think that these two guys actually believe in Chinese style communism.

As for the five of those predictable radical responses, up yours, guys.

Ben Carson

Ben Carson has committed several mortal sins. First and foremost, he does not fit the liberal mantra of a downtrodden black man. Secondly, he sins because he doesn't wallow in poverty, blaming the white race for his inability to succeed. The third and most damning, is that he is a conservative, a religious man and a successful Neurosurgeon.

All of the democratic flailing about how if you voted for anyone other than Obama, you were a racist is suddenly come back to haunt the black community. The shoe, firmly on the other foot, has suddenly shifted. No longer is it racist to condemn Carson, who is obviously too successful to be a poster boy for damning the white right, the oppressors of all blacks.

The attacks begin. All of which have been refuted. It kind of reminds me of the CBS/Rather disaster. Several personal attacks have come forth directed toward Carson. None of which held water.

Carson even got attacked by Kareem Jabar, claiming he wasn't a good representative for the black community. Like a basket ball player is an expert on government. More proof that the black liberal community has rolled out  the big guns, reinforcing my example of racism in reverse.

A president doesn't have to be a foreign policy expert, nor an economist expert, nor a military tactician. What he or she does have to be is an intellect, something sadly lacking in the current admisitration. That is why they have cabinet members, advisers in all of those areas. Would that the current White House resident have taken advantage of that option.

I'll bid our conservative intellectual candidate against your hollow, great speaker with no content worth listening to. Pot stakes.
